The Ladies Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity, Hicksville, NY
The Mission of the Society

The mission of the Philoptochos Society is to demonstrate God’s love for all people and to practice the inspiring message of the parable of the Good Samaritan. It is to take the words of Christ when He says, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required” (Luke 12:48), and to show concern and generosity to the less fortunate, the infirm, the hungry and the homeless of this world.

  • Aid the poor, destitute, hungry, aged, sick, orphaned, widowed, handicapped, victims of disasters, unemployed, imprisoned, or to undertake the burial of the impoverished persons and to offer assistance to anyone who may need the help of the church through fund raising efforts.
  • Promote the participation in charitable, benevolent and philanthropic activities with the cooperation of the parish priest and parish council. The activities include but are not limited to instructional programs, presentations, lectures and seminars.
  • Continue to foster Orthodox Christian concepts and philosophies through Orthodox Christian Families upholding traditions and faith in accordance with its doctrines, canons, discipline, divine worship, usages and customs.
  • To promote the participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community, with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and the Parish Council.

Kosmas and Damianos are the Patron Saints of Philoptochos and November 1 is the Feast Day of these Patron Saints. Kosmas and Damianos were born of wealthy parents and educated in the best schools receiving degrees in medicine. They were apostles of Christ and physicians of both the body and soul, who pledged never to accept payment of any kind for their services. They healed thousands through the miracle of prayer and medicine. Philoptochos members strive to make a difference in the lives of others, following the example of our patron saints.
